Effective Impact Mentoring Program Components

The Mentoring Program consists of several component pieces:

  1. Joint orientation for mentors and mentees (includes opportunity to network with Executive Alliance membership)
  2. Five professional development sessions to educate and build skills for mentees
  3. Participation in Executive Alliance activities, including meetings and social activities
  4. One-on-one mentoring for each mentee with assigned mentor (supplemented by assistance of Executive Alliance membership for particular subjects/needs)

1. Joint Orientation for Mentors and Mentees

  • History and purpose of program
  • Role of mentor
  • Role of mentee
  • Description of entire mentorship program
    • One-on-one meetings between mentors and mentees
    • Professional development programs
    • Overview of other Executive Alliance activities

2. Five Professional Development Sessions

Session 1: Building Communication Skills that Matter

  • Speaking with confidence
  • Tailoring your message (and your style) to the audience/circumstance
  • Persuasion and influence
  • Conversational styles in the workplace
  • Listening: knowing when to talk
  • Presentation skills

Session 2: Getting Behind the Numbers – Finance for Non-Finance Executives

  • Basic financial terminology
  • Reading three basic financial statements
  • What financial statements tell about an organization
  • Difference between net income and cash flow
  • What an executive MUST know

Session 3: Managing Up, Down and Sideways

  • The power of team
  • Adapting management styles to diverse and multi-cultural teams
  • Effective delegation
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Conflict resolution: diffusing potentially tense situations
  • Building alliances with peers

Session 4: Developing Leadership Skills

  • Effective leadership styles
  • Ethics, judgment, and integrity
  • Becoming an MVP in your workplace
  • Leading from where you are
  • Defining your own leadership path

Session 5: Creating a Self-Sustaining Person in You

  • The value of networking and how to do it effectively
  • Selling yourself: communicating how I add value
  • Developing a wellness mindset
  • Taking care of yourself on the journey
  • Finding your personal mission

3. Participation in Executive Alliance Activities

  • At least one General Membership Meeting
  • Fun Club committee events such as afternoon tea, crab feast, spa pampering

4. One-on-One Mentoring

  • Each mentor-mentee team will meet at least one time per month at mutually agreeable times
  • Other Executive Alliance members will be available to assist with specific topics/needs
